Hi, my name is Shannon and I’m the marketing coordinator for Cubicle Ninjas.

Today I’m going discuss why it’s important to start blogging before you ever get started with social media.

Someone once told me that the key to digital marketing success is to create more than you consume.

This advice really stuck with me. I often see a lot of businesses making the mistake of using social media, but never creating any type of original content. Social media is a marketing tool to share and promote the content a business creates.

Without original content, there’s really no benefit to social media. Now this isn’t always the case, but if you’re a B2B company, it’s crucial for your business to start blogging. B2B companies that blog generate 67% more leads per month that those who don’t. This percentage keeps going up every year, which means that more companies are seeing the benefits of blogging.

Creating more leads is a big incentive for B2B companies to start blogging today, but there are 8 more reasons why it’s important to blog.

1 is Thought Leadership

Companies want to be perceived as experts in their industry, especially for B2B. Blogging provides companies a chance to share their expertise. It also shows that your company is paying attention to the latest industry trends.

2 is Drive Traffic Back to Your Site

When I started working at Cubicle Ninjas a year ago, our website had about an average of 3,000 visitors a month. 6 months after I started blogging for Cubicle Ninjas, that number has jumped up to an average of 16,000 visitors a month.

3 is Sales Materials

If you’re looking to tighten the relationship between marketing and sales, blog content can often be repurposed to fit the needs of your sales team in order to keep the conversation going with potential clients.

4 is Customer Resources

As a B2B company, we love to provide our clients with content that is valuable. Blogging is great way to share important information your clients are in need of.

5 is Brand Awareness

Which pretty much goes without saying.

6 is SEO

The more you blog, the more search engines understand your company’s services or product. If you choose a few topics to blog about that are related to your company, search engines will start to make sense of the value of your site.

7 is e-Newsletter content

If your company does a monthly or quarterly e-newsletter, simply repurpose your blog content for the newsletter. It’s a more direct approach and you’re sharing content with those who already have some sort of a relationship with your company. You can also use blogging to increase opt-in subscriptions for your newsletter by adding a sign-up box to your blog.

8 is Constant Communication with Clients

Blogging, as well as email marketing and social media, helps your company stay in front of your clients. You want to stay fresh in the minds of your clients so you can increase loyalty and trust.

I hope I motivated you to get started today on blogging before you even think about sending out one more tweet.
